Redefine Success
Blood Pressure Awareness: Why Knowing Your Numbers Matters
Know your numbers. Protect your health.
Blood pressure is an important indicator of our overall health, yet high blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms. This means that someone can have high blood pressure without knowing it.
Regular blood pressure checks can help identify potential problems early and allow people to access the right advice and support.
For older people and those receiving care at home, keeping on top of regular health checks can be an important part of maintaining wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
What is high blood pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood around your body.
According to the NHS, high blood pressure is generally considered to be:
140/90 mmHg or higher when checked by a healthcare professional
135/85 mmHg or higher when checked at home
A single high reading does not necessarily mean that someone has high blood pressure. If readings remain consistently high, a GP or other healthcare professional can provide further advice and may recommend additional monitoring.
You can find more information on the NHS website:

Why are regular checks important?
High blood pressure can increase the risk of serious health conditions, including heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.
Because there are often no noticeable symptoms, checking your blood pressure is one of the simplest ways to keep an eye on your cardiovascular health.
Blood pressure can be checked by a GP, practice nurse, pharmacist or through home monitoring using an appropriate blood pressure monitor.
Blood Pressure UK recommends using a validated upper-arm blood pressure monitor when checking your blood pressure at home.
Supporting health and wellbeing at home
For some older people, managing health appointments, medication and everyday routines can become more challenging.
This is where personalised home care can make a valuable difference.
At Loyal Bee Care, our nurse-led team provides compassionate, person-centred support designed around the individual. Our care can include medication support, assistance with everyday routines and other personalised support that helps clients continue living safely and comfortably in their own homes.
We understand that maintaining independence doesn't necessarily mean doing everything alone. Sometimes, having the right support in place can give individuals and their families greater confidence and peace of mind.
Medication support
If someone has been prescribed medication to help manage their blood pressure, it is important that they take it as directed by their healthcare professional.
Our carers can provide medication support as part of a personalised care package, helping clients maintain their routines and providing reassurance to families.
Medication should never be stopped, started or changed without speaking to a GP, pharmacist or other appropriate healthcare professional.
What can you do to look after your blood pressure? There are several lifestyle factors that can contribute to maintaining healthy blood pressure.
These can include:
Eating a balanced diet
Staying physically active where appropriate
Maintaining a healthy weight
Limiting alcohol
Not smoking
Reducing salt intake
Attending recommended health checks
Taking prescribed medication as directed
Small, sustainable changes can contribute to better overall health and wellbeing.

Confidence doesn’t always arrive with a bold entrance. Sometimes, it builds quietly, step by step, as we show up for ourselves day after day. It grows when we choose to try, even when we’re unsure of the outcome. Every time you take action despite self-doubt, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable. Confidence isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about trusting that you can figure it out along the way.
The key to making things happen isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s starting with what you have, where you are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum builds through small, consistent action. Whether you’re working toward a personal milestone or a professional dream, progress comes from showing up — not perfectly, but persistently. Action creates clarity, and over time, those steps forward add up to something real.
You don’t need to be fearless to reach your goals, you just need to be willing. Willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to believe that you’re capable of more than you know. The road may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is that you keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in the version of yourself you’re becoming.
